The Shirabyōshi Dancer, Hotoke Gozen
This woodblock print illustrates a poem by poet Sōjō Henjō about the famous dancer, Hotoke Goen. It is from the series, “Ogura Imitations of One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.” It was created ca. 1847 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print.
