Gojū Kogō no Tsubone Gojūni Tomoegozen
The title translates to “51: Kogō no Tsubone ; 52: Tomoe Gozen.” This woodblock print shows a pair of scenes. The top shows the emperor’s mistress Kogō no Tsubone playing a biwa while Nakakuni, a messenger for the emperor, watches. The second scene shows Tomoe Gozen, a female samurai, and another warrior, possibly Yoshinaka, on horseback. The woodcut was created (with color) in 1888 by an unknown Japanese ukiyo-e artist.
