Votive Plaque of the Actor Bando Mitsugoro III in the Role of Sasaki Takatsuna
This woodblock print shows a characterization of the famous actor Bando Mitsugoro III playing the role of the legendary samurai, Sasaki Takatsuna. It was created in 1821 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print. (From the collection of the Rijks Museum, Amsterdam)
