This woodblock print shows a characterization of the famous kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII in the role of a powerful warrior, crying “Shibaraku!” (“Just a minute!”). It was created ca. 1833–34 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print. (From the collection of the Rijks Museum, Amsterdam)
