Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s Highest Peak
The photo shows Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. The mountain is an extinct volcano. Uhuru Peak, its highest point, looms tall at 19,341 feet above sea level. Over 50,000 people try to climb it every year. From top to bottom, climbers hike through five ecological climate zones, from the equator to the arctic.
