“God’s Eye” is a nickname for the Helix Nebula, also known as NGC 7293 or Caldwell 63. The nickname was applied because from Earth, the nebula looks like a giant eye. It is a cloud of gas and dust formed from the gases blown off by a dying star. It is relatively close to Earth, about 655 light-years away. (Hubble Space Telescope)
