The spiral galaxy named NGC 3972 is located in the constellation Ursa Major, about 65 million light-years from Earth. It was first discovered by astronomer William Herschel on April 14, 1789. Its bright center is surrounded by spiral arms containing dark dust lanes and clusters of hot, young, blue stars.
