P.T. Barnum & the Great London Circus
This promotional poster announced an event where the Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth combined with The Great London Circus as well as Sangers Royal British Menagerie & Grand International Shows. It shows the “Great Jumbo’s Skeleton,” the remains of an elephant who died about this time. Barnum donated the skeleton to the American Museum of Natural History in 1889, where it remains on display today. The cameo portrait is of P.T. Barnum. This chromolithograph was published ca. 1885 by Strobridge & Co. (LC-DIG-ppmsca-32620).
