Trapeze Act at the Circus
This promotional poster shows five male acrobats flying high on the trapezes at a circus. Trapeze artists were a popular circus act then as now, wowing audiences with their mid-air stunts, flips, and releases. The first trapeze act was performed by Jules Léotard (father of the modern “leotard”) in the 1850s. This hand-colored lithograph was published in 1890 by Calvert Litho. Co. (LC-DIG-ppmsca-54754).
