Julius Seeth, Forest-Bred Lions
This promotional circus poster shows lion tamer Julius Seeth standing on a pedestal atop a horse amidst six lions in various positions. The term “forest-bred” was used to imply the animals were wild. Seeth was a well-known animal trainer who performed regularly at the London Hippodrome with lions, ponies, dogs, and other animals. This color lithograph was printed ca. 1893 (LC-DIG-ppmsca-55107).
