Nellie McHenry, A Night at the Circus
This promotional theater poster advertised performer Nellie McHenriy’s role in the 1893 play, “A Night at the Circus,” written by H. Grattan Donnelly. McHenry played a circus rider named Mlle. Electra, who sought revenge against her manager and two married lawyers who tried to woo her. It ended with Mlle. Electra riding a horse off the stage in a circus outfit. This color lithograph was printed ca. 1893 by Strobridge & Co. (Call No. POS-TH-1893.N51, no. 1).
