This photograph shows an African American baseball team posing on the front steps of the Ballard Normal School in Macon, Georgia. This private school was built to provide a high school education for African American children during this time of segregation. The team was called the Ballard Schoolites and competed against other African American teams around the state. This photograph was created ca. 1914.
