This promotional poster shows female acrobats “flying high” on trapezes at a circus. At the time, this was not considered suitable employment for women, although many enjoyed watching them perform. Even more shocking were their form-fitting, short costumes, which went against the norms of female propriety. This hand-colored lithograph was published in 1890 by Calvert Litho. Co. (LC-DIG-ppmsca-54752).
