Circus Parade
This print shows an early traveling circus parade with a caged lion on a wagon being pulled by four horses, followed by other circus acts, entertainers, and even a small herd of elephants. A huge circus tent looms in the background. Villagers watch from the sidelines as the parade passes by. The arrival of a circus to a city or town was exciting, enough to shut down schools and businesses. This chromolithograph was published ca. 1891 (LC-DIG-ppmsca-54761).
