The Stillness of the Great Egret
This large wading bird is a member of the heron family. Great egrets can stand over 4 feet tall with a wingspan of more than 50 inches. They are frequently seen in shallow water habitats such as a marsh or river edge. They hunt fish, frogs, and insects by standing perfectly still, then spearing their prey with their stout, yellow bills.
