Black-Capped Chickadee on a Twig
These small, curious birds are commonly found in places with trees or woody shrubs, including forests, parks, and residential neighborhoods in northern North America. They primarily eat insects, spiders, seeds, and berries in the summer and may put away food for the winter in bark crevices, knotholes, gutters, and under curled leaves.
NOTE: Some images are valuable historical records. To preserve their original condition, we have presented them as captured; their resolution may not be optimal for modern displays.
