Long-Eared Owls on a Branch
This medium-sized owl can be found all across the Northern Hemisphere. What looks like ears are tufts of feathers (plumicorns). It raises them if alarmed. Its actual ears are hidden under the feathers on its head. When threatened, this owl stretches itself out and tightens its feathers, ears and all, to resemble a tree branch.
