Common Kingfisher at Rest
This shy bird is also known as the river kingfisher or Eurasian kingfisher and lives along rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It chooses freshwater habitats with clear water so it can easily spot its prey (usually fish). The kingfisher shown here is clearly a female since it has an orange lower mandible. A male’s beak would be all black.
