These dragonflies are found across much of eastern and southern Asia. While known for their sapphire blue wings, this is an optical illusion. The wings do help males scare off rivals when establishing territory and make it easier for them to hide near water. Dragonflies have existed for over 300 million years, long before dinosaurs.
