Lionfish live mainly in the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea, but they have been found along the southeastern US coast, from Florida to North Carolina and across the Caribbean. These nocturnal predators eat anything up to half their size, swallowing them whole. They sting their prey—or even humans—with needle-like spines coated in venom.
