This oil-on-wood painting was created in 1842 by English-American maritime artist Robert Salmon (1775-1845). This British-born artist settled in Boston in 1828 and produced many paintings of the city's bustling harbor at that time, vividly showing the city's importance as a seaport. (Smithsonian)
