This oil-on-canvas painting was created in 1835 by American painter Ralph Eleaser Whiteside Earl (1785-1838). Earl was a family friend of President Andrew Jackson and painted dozens of portraits of him throughout his life. He even lived in the White House during Jackson's presidency and was nicknamed "the court painter." (Smithsonian)
