This painting was created by American artist Junius Brutus Stearns (1810-1885), best known for his five-part Washington series. The rural scene shows Washington standing among a group of Black field workers who are harvesting grain. Note Mount Vernon in the background. This color lithograph was published ca. 1853 by Lemercier (LC-DIG-pga-02419).
