This painting shows one of the major battles of the Shenandoah Valley (Virginia) during the Civil War. At the Battle of Cedar Creek in October 1864, Confederate troops launched a surprise attack on the Union Army, successfully capturing their camps. Union troops rallied and achieved victory. This print was published ca. 1890 by Kurz & Allison (LC-DIG-pga-01880).
