This painting shows Union soldiers attacking Confederate fortifications at Petersburg, Virginia in April 1865. This battle marked a major turning point in the Civil War, bringing about the Confederate army's evacuation of both Petersburg and Richmond. This chromolithograph was published ca. 1893 by Kurz & Allison (LC-DIG-pga-01904).
