This painting shows Union soldiers attacking the walls of Fort Wagner on Morris Island in South Carolina on July 18, 1863. Note the hand-to-hand combat between the Union and Confederate soldiers as they attempt to defend their fort. This chromolithograph was published ca. 1890 by Kurz & Allison (LC-DIG-pga-01949).
