This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1893 by American marine and historical artist Edward Moran (1829–1901). Although many of Moran’s paintings show shipwrecks and storms, the sea and sky in this painting are relatively calm. Instead, the focus is on a man monitoring the shoreline with his dog.
