Young Italian Woman, with ‘Puck’ the Dog
This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1885 by Dutch portrait painter Thérèse Schwartze (1851-19180. The woman in the painting beside the dog known as Puck was known as Fortunata, a professional Italian model working in Paris. Schwartze’s pursuit of art as a career was considered unconventional, but she persevered and became a successful portraitist. (Rijksmuseum)
