This oil-on-canvas painting was created by Dutch marine painter Willem van de Velde II (1633-1707) ca. 1680. It shows a Dutch warship at full sail firing a cannon shot. Two sloops float to either side, with another Dutch ship in the distance. (Rijksmuseum)
