This oil-on-canvas painting was created by American artist William Sergeant Kendall (1869-1938) in 1907. He was best known for his tender scenes of family and home. He loved painting his three daughters and their mother, Margaret. Here his wife is reading to one of their young daughters, likely right before bedtime. (Smithsonian)
