This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1896 by American artist Louise Cox (1865-1945) in1911. The child is looking at the flowers in a Murano glass vase with a stem in the form of a sea serpent. Cox was best known for her portraits of children and won a number of medals throughout her career. (Smithsonian)
