This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1870 by American portrait painter George Peter Alexander Healy 1813-1894). Healy painted this portrait of American sculptor Lavinia Ellen “Vinny” Ream in Rome. She was there to oversee the carving of her famous statue of Abraham Lincoln. The first woman to receive a federal commission for the U.S. Capitol, Ream’s last sitting with President Lincoln was the day he was assassinated. (Smithsonian)
