Sea at Satta in Suruga Province
This woodblock print is part of the series, “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.” It shows waves hitting the coastline, with a sailboat, cliffs, and mountainside in the background. It was created in 1858 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print. (From the collection of the Rijks Museum, Amsterdam)
