Poem by Kōkō Tennō Tomoe Gozen
This woodblock print illustrates a poem about Tomoe Gozen written by the ninth-century emperor. The image is from the series, “Ogura Imitations of One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.” It was created ca. 1847 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print.
