Kumagae Jiro Naozane by the Sea
This woodblock print illustrates the historical Battle of Ichi-no-Tani from the Genji and Heike wars from the historic Japanese story, The Tale of the Heike. It is from the series, “Ogura Imitations of One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.” It was created ca. 1847 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print.
