This supernova remnant, also known as E0102, is said to be “young,” as it is only 1,000 to 2,000 years old! It is located in the Small Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf galaxy orbiting the Milky Way galaxy. It came into existence after a massive star’s core collapsed and exploded. It is about 190,000 light-years away from Earth. (Hubble Space Telescope)
NOTE: Some images are valuable historical records. To preserve their original condition, we have presented them as captured; their resolution may not be optimal for modern displays.
