Blockhouse on the Bank
This photograph shows a Union blockhouse on the bank of the Tennessee River near Chattanooga, Tennessee, during the American Civil War. Blockhouses were built to protect important assets such as military bridges and supply lines. The tower on top was positioned as a lookout station. The photograph was created ca. 1863.
