Lt. Gen. Leonidas Polk
This studio portrait shows Lt. General Leonidas Polk (1806-1864), a cousin of President James K. Polk, while in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. He was formerly ordained a deacon in the Protestant Episcopal Church. He was killed in action during the Atlanta Campaign near Pine Mountain, Georgia, by a Union cannon shot. The photograph was created ca. 1863.
