Gen. Richard Taylor was the son of Zachary Taylor. He served under “Stonewall” Jackson in the Shenandoah and was later assigned to the Trans-Mississippi Dept. where he was instrumental in defeating the Red River expedition of the Union forces under Banks. He was one of the last of the Confederates to give up the fight, finally surrendering to Gen. Canby in May of 1865.
