Jefferson C. Davis, Union
Davis was a 1st Lt. present at the bombardment of Fort Sumter, August 1861. He killed Gen. William Nelson in a quarrel in 1862. Serving under Sherman in the "March to the Sea" he captured Rome, Ga., a major object of Sherman's march, destroying the mills and foundries that were critical to the Confederacy.
