Inauguration of President Lincoln
This photograph shows the crowd at the U.S. Capitol Building on March 4, 1861. They have gathered for the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln as he becomes the 16th president of the United States. His First Inaugural Address called for unity and asserted federal power. The photograph was created in 1861.
