President Lincoln and Pinkerton
President Lincoln is shown here meeting with Alan Pinkerton, head of Gen. McClellan’s secret service, and Maj. Gen. J. A. McClernand. Pinkerton, loyal to McClellan, refused to continue his role with the Army of the Potomac after McClellan was dismissed. This photograph was taken at Antietam, Md., on October 8th, 1862.
