The Maricopa made good use of the desert's bountiful crops, including the fruit growing atop the tallest cactus, the saguaro. These women would have used long harvest poles to reach this high-growing food. Photographed in 1907 by Edward S. Curtis, hand tinted by Stanley R. Waine.
